Getting Started With Black Diamond

Overview

Black Diamond provides independent advisors and wealth managers with web-based, outsourced portfolio management and reporting trough a feature-rich web application.

Advisors Assistant will integrate with Black Diamond in 2 ways:

1.You can download positions for all of your clients with Black Diamond.  If the client does not exist in your database, a contact record will automatically be created.  Security records are automatically created, and accounts are automatically created.

2.You can Single SignOn to Black Diamond from inside of Advisors Assistant.  Advisors Assistant sends the credentials to Black Diamond and you are automatically logged in.

These are two independent functions and each is set up separately.  You can do one, the other, or both functions.

Getting Started With Position Downloads

To set up your credentials for the position downloads from Black Diamond, just follow these steps:

Step 1: Contact Black Diamond For Your ID and Password

The ID and Password is a single ID for all advisors who use both Black Diamond and Advisors Assistant.

Step 2: Activate Black Diamond in Advisors Assistant.

There is no cost for the Black Diamond download as long as you have the Investment Module.  However, so we can keep track of who is using it for communicating with Black Diamond users, the module must be activated.

Call Sales to get activation codes.

Step 3: Enter The Black Diamond Credentials In System Preferences

This function must be done by an Advisors Assistant System Administrator.

1.Click on Admin | System Preferences

2.Choose the Black Diamond Tab

If you don't see the tab, it may be because Step 2 was not completed.  The tab only appears if Black Diamond is activated in Advisors Assistant.

Setting Up Single Sign On (SSO)

Each Advisor who wants to SSO from Advisors Assistant to Black Diamond needs their own set of credentials.  You don't need to store this set of credentials in Advisors Assistant.  They are stored at Black Diamond and associated with the Primary Producer (Advisor) in Advisors Assistant.

Here's how SSO Works:

Click On Partners, then the Black Diamond Logo

Click On Partners, then the Black Diamond Logo

Once you are given the Black Diamond SSO credentials, all you need to do is to use Advisors Assistant to go to their Web Site.

1.Click Partners on the Advisors Assistant Sidebar Menu.

2.Click on the Black Diamond Logo.  Advisors Assistant will send an ID associated with the Primary Producer (Advisor) associated with the client being viewed on the screen.  This is not the User ID issued by Black Diamond, but an ID stored in the Producer's record.

3. Log into Black Diamond.

When you log into Black Diamond this first time using SSO, Black Diamond will associated your Black Diamond login with the ID sent by Advisors Assistant.

The next time you use SSO, Black Diamond will see the Advisors Assistant ID sent and automatically associated it with the advisor and you won't have to use the Black Diamond credentials.  Of course, there are some other special credentials issued to Advisors Assistant so they know you are using a program approved for SSO.

If a user has rights to view a client's data for a Black Diamond Advisor, they can SSO to Black Diamond without having to set up additional credentials.  That means that assistants can use the advisors' credentials.
