Nuance PDF Converter With 64 Bit Windows

Running Windows 7 64 bit with Microsoft Word, 2010 in the version we tested, caused Word to send the error message:

"Word cannot start the converter SSPDFCG_x64.cnv"

Nuance support suggests:

“Please try to go to this path C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv\ and then rename this file: sspdfcg_x64.cnv to sspdfcg_x64.old”

How To Rename The File

To Rename the file, follow these steps:

1.Click on Start | All Programs | Accessories

2.RIGHT CLICK on Windows Explorer

3.Select Run As Administrator from the Right Click Menu.  If you don't do this, the renaming will not work.

4.Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86).  Not just Program Files  Program Files (x86) is just after the Program Files folder.

5.Scroll down and select the Common Files folder

6.Select the Microsoft Shared folder

7.Click on the TextConv folder

8.Right click on the file SSPDFCG_X64.CNV

9.Select Rename from the menu

10.Rename the file to SSPDFCG_64.OLD (upper/lower case does not matter.)

11.You will get a message about changing the file type.  Agree to the message as this is what you want.

12.Close Windows Explorer

If you ever wish to name it back to the original, just follow the same instructions and rename it back to the original name.

Evidently, the Nuance Installation should not have installed the 64 bit file or should not be trying to call it when 32 bit Word is installed.

64 Bit Office

Do not install 64 Bit Office on 64 bit computers.  It is not recommended by Microsoft and is not the default installation.  You can check the Help in Office and search for "64 bit" for more information on why it is not recommended.

Beginning in March, 2012, Advisors Assistant will install a 64 bit Add-in when you are running 64 bit Office.
