Commission Report Fields Overview

This section is designed to explain the relationships and meanings of some of the fields on the various reports.

Transmittal Reports

Transmittal reports are designed to be sent to producers with their commission check.  The report can show both the commissions paid by the agency and the commissions paid directly from the company.  They can also subtotal first year and renewals.

Basis Of Calculation

The Basis of Calculation tells you what part of the rate table was used and how the rate table was applied.

For Example: "Base Prem" means that the Base Premium column of the Rate Table was used and the Base Modal Premium is used in the calculation.  "% of Agcy" means that the rate refers to a percentage of Agency Commission is being used.

Basis Value

The Basis Value is referred to as the Base Amount throughout the Help, but we changed it to "Basis Value" for the Transmittal Reports to make it easier for the Producer reading the report to connect to the "Basis of Calculation" and the "Comm Rate."

When the Basis of Calculation indicates that a percentage of Agency Commission is being used, then the Basis Value is the actual Agency Commission used in the calculation.

Comm Rate

The Comm Rate is the rate that is in the column of the commission rate table defined in the Basis of Calculation.  The Comm Rate is multiplied by the Basis Value.

Case Split

The Case Split is then multiplied by the product of the Comm Rate and the Basis Value.  Click HERE for more information about Case Splits.

Due

This is the Due Date of the premium on which the commission is based.

Posted

This is the date the agency posted the commission as being received.  This is the date that drives the Transmittal Reports.  You DO NOT want to overlap Transmittal Report Posted Dates in the Commission Report Filter or you could pay producers for the same policy twice.

Commission Received

This field is the commission received by the producer.

Paid By

This can either be the Agency or a third party, such as an insurance company.

Distribution Reports

Commission Distribution Reports are important because they show every Commission Component and provide good troubleshooting information so you can go back to the policy record or the rate table and locate any problems.

The data on this report depends on how you use the Commission Reports Criteria Filter.  If you ask for paid transactions only, then you would not get a subtotal of unpaid transactions.

Use To Compare Posting Batches

If you asked for only one company and one month's posted transactions with only Agency Level transactions, you would get the amount of money you posted for a particular month from that company.  That report should match your company's transmittal or something may have been posted wrong.

Agency Net Reports

Agency Net Reports show what the agency is due or was paid (depending on how you filter the data), how much was paid to producers, how much was paid to managers, and the net amount retained by the agency.

Be sure you establish a standard for your posted date ranges when doing transmittal reports so you don't overlap them.  That could cause you to pay a producer twice for the same policy.

Always check your reports before issuing checks.  Mistakes can cause the wrong commission to be paid.
